Who founded SeaPUG and when was it founded?
The Seattle Palm Users Group was founded by Greg Gaub, Susan E. Bernick, and Greg Martz on June 7, 2000. A simple message to a PalmOS mailing list (palm-talk@onelist.com) from Greg Gaub, asking if anyone else was interested in creating a Seattle based Palm Users Group, resulted in enough interest to go ahead and do it. An eGroups (now Yahoo! Groups) mailing list was created, and Greg, Greg, and Susan hammered out the meeting time and place. Greg Gaub got started on the web site and it's been non-stop fun since then. ;-) Greg now runs the group pretty much all by himself, and would welcome any assistance. :)

Why do I get gibberish when I try to download a file from the File Sharing page?
This happens when the server doesn't know what kind of file it is. The server defaults to just sending the file as if it were text or HTML. To overcome this problem, simply right-click (Mac users click and hold) to bring up the pop-up option menu. Then, choose "save as..." or "safe file as..." or "save target as..." (they all do the same thing, but appear differently depending on your web browser). You can then choose the location on your hard drive to save the file to. Click "Save" and the file will download properly. You can then locate the file and make use of it normally.

Can I be on the mailing list, but not receive all the messages?
Yes! With Yahoo! Groups, there are a few different options available. Once you're a member of the list you can go to the following URL to manage any and all Yahoo! Groups lists you are on:
http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups/
That page will show you a list of all the Yahoo! Groups lists you are on. You might need to log in, sign up for a Yahoo ID, or just associate your SeaPUG subscription with your acount, but there's help for that stuff on the MyGroups page. For each group, there are links to the group page, as well as other links depending on the group settings. Click the name of the group you want to change settings for (in this case, seapug), then click the "Delivery Options" link under the "Membership" column heading (at the right). You then have the choices of: Individual Emails, which is the default setting, sending all list messages directly to your mailbox; Daily Digest, which compiles all messages into a single Email sent to your address at the end of each day; No Mail/Web Only, which sends no Email to your address at all, but allows you to read the messages online at Yahoo! Groups; Special Notices, which will allow you to receive any special notices the group owner (SeaPUG webmaster) sends; and Unsubscribe (button at the bottom), which allows you to completely remove yourself from the list, also eliminating your ability to view messages on the web site. Simply choose the setting you want for the SeaPUG list, click the "Save Changes" button, and you're done. Sometimes it takes the Yahoo! Groups system a couple hours to fully effect the changes, but it will happen.
