INTERNET RELAY CHAT (IRC)

If you'd like to chat in real time with other PalmOS device users, this page has the information you need.

If you're already an avid IRC user, the following info is what you need to get to a great Palm related channel:
  • Server: irc.oftc.net
  • Channel: #palmchat
How do I connect to this chat channel?
The most common way is to use an IRC client, such as mIRC for Windows, to connect to an IRC server, and then join the channel, and chat.
Why should I?
If you don't want to chat with other PalmOS device users, about PalmOS related stuff, then don't. If you do, then this channel is the way to go. We talk about all sorts of things, but most of the time discussion relates to the PalmOS in some form. This channel is the most active PalmOS related channel I know of, and almost always has tons of people in it.
When's a good time to chat?
Anytime! The #palmchat channel on oftc.net is a very popular channel and has people in it chatting pretty much 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. You definitely won't be the only person in the channel.

If you're new to IRC, here are some links to help you get started.

How to connect to the channel using an IRC client

  1. First, you need to download an IRC client (program). Go to www.irchelp.org to learn all about it, download software, and even take a tutorial on how to use it.
  2. After you've gotten the software installed, and understand how to use it (at least the basics), you need to connect.
  3. Connect to any oftc.net server. In most IRC programs, you can simply type /server irc.oftc.net to connect to a random oftc.net server.
  4. After you've connected to an oftc.net server, you can join the channel. The exact name is as follows: #palmchat. Again, with most IRC software, you can join the channel by typing /join #palmchat.
  5. Once you're in the right channel, you can chat away. There will be plenty of people there.
