ALTC Game: May 27th, 2006
Rain was expected days before the event this time, so I planned ahead. Expecting relatively low turnout, I decided to forego the tagger racks completely, and use the canopy to simply protect our players from the rain. One of my son's friends came along with us, and the 5 of us played some LTAG for a bit while other players made their way to the game. I think the rain slowed some people down. It's a good thing I didn't bother with the tagger racks, as we had several new players who pretty much all had TMBs, which as many of you know, don't play well with the rack just yet. Fortunately, when these new players arrived, I asked if they were up to the task of assembling a second canopy, which I knew would be a PITA as soon as I opened the box. They agreed to give it a go.
As the two adventurous and helpful people assembled the second canopy, I took nicknames and such for new and returning players for keeping score today. Some players also warmed up with some LTAG while I was taking names. By the time I had everyone in the scorekeeper (LTTM for Palm OS), the second canopy was assembled and ready to provide additional rain protection. We started off with 13 players, but then Polymorph showed up and we had an even 14 for two teams of 7. Using LTTM, I split the 14 players into two teams of 7 based on age, so that each team had a fairly even division of kids and adults.
The first game we played was a simple 2 Team Survival game with both teams entering the wooded area and simply trying to be the winning team. Also of note is the fact that Lazerbait was playing with his heavily modded TMB. Not only was this an old-code TMB, but it also had his shotgun mod on it, with a nice big lens for a more focused shotgun beam. This combination of shotgun and old-code meant that he could fire quite a lot of tags, and also while shielded, giving him quite an unfair advantage. But, it was his birthday, so we indulged him. ;-) Here's how the scores came out:

Our next game was the Escort the VIP scenario. I modified the rules with one small stipulation, which is that the VIP himself (though not his team) cannot exceed walking pace. Team 2 battled quite valiantly to stop the VIP from making it all the way through the woods on the trail, but in the end, they were not successful. As this game is played with the 2 Team Kings game, all members of each team share the team ranks of 1 and 2.

For our thrid game, the kids very much wanted to battle the adults. To decide teams, I had all the players line up in order of their age, and then split the teams evenly in the center of the line. This resulted in the kids team having a couple non-kid players, but I don't think they minded much. ;-) We had a friend of Polymorph's join us at this point, nicknamed Bear. This game was also played as a 2 Teams Survival game, and resulted in the following ranks:

Game Notes: Kids versus Adults game.
|
Our game time was nearing it's end already, as the first game didn't begin until nearly two o'clock due to players arriving late, and so our last game of the day was kind of hard to decide on. After K's performance in the previous game, and with the skill he displayed with his use of shields, running and hiding, and general chaos surrounding the choice of the next game, I proposed to the group that K be the TagMaster in a TagMaster versus Individual Players game (TMIG). He knew he would be hoofing it a bit, so got in a little more stretching as I hosted the game and explained the rules to everyone. We gave K an extra minute to hide in the woods before coming in to get him. Fortunately for K, most of the other players decided to land tags on each other before trying to taking him on. Unfortunately for K, he thought all taggers had the hit-lights that the TMB has, so believed Lazerbait's IRT-2X to be malfunctioning, so didn't continue firing when he should have. As a result, LB landed quite a lot of tags on K, and came out with the top rank.
