A stropping leather, as I call it, is used to sharpen tool blades. Basically, it is a scrap of leather with jewelers rouge worked onto it. The rouge acts as the abraisive to sharpen the blades. Most often it is used to polish a swivel knife blade to make it easier to carve with. A sharp blade is the crafter's best friend, but should be respected.
